Oscar assignments 2024 scorns and astonishments: No best chief designations for Bradley Cooper, Greta Gerwig

In a year overstuffed with breathtaking film exhibitions, there will undoubtedly be frustrations when the Foundation of Movie Expressions and Sciences reported its chosen people for the 96th Institute Grants today — and three past champs were among those forgotten about in the 2024 Oscar selections.

Leonardo DiCaprio didn't make it into the main five for best entertainer for his featuring job in "Enemies of the Blossom Moon," and neither Natalie Portman nor Julianne Moore got a gesture for "May December." (Nor did that film's breakout star, Charles Melton.)

The best entertainer class specifically was profoundly serious this year, and it's populated by past victor Emma Stone (for "Unfortunate Things"), three-time candidate Carey Mulligan ("Maestro"), five-time chosen one Annette Bening ("Nyad"), and first-time candidates Lily Gladstone ("Enemies of the Blossom Moon") and Sandra Hüller ("Life systems of a Fall") — which didn't leave space for Margot Robbie ("Barbie"), Greta Lee ("Previous existences"), Cailee Spaeny ("Priscilla"), Rhapsody Barrino ("Purple") or Michelle Williams ("Appearing").
